Even seasoned travellers need to think twice. Parasite-carrying female anopheles mosquitoes, like Ana, fly close to the ground and carry a deadly secret. These are dangerous, silent assassins that hunt in the evening and early in the morning. It’s about the same time that most travellers enjoy a peaceful walk. It has to be said that it’s not her fault – it’s not the actual mosquito that that does the damage, it’s the threat she carries – the potentially fatal P. falciparum parasite.
